Google+ Jack Leslie F1: Testing your reaction times

Testing your reaction times

Not cracking under pressure is tough, but very important in motorsport - particularly the insanely fast world of Formula 1.
Quick reaction times and a cool, calm head are vital to keep the car on the track, not make mistakes and reach the chequered flag.

When drivers are racing on track, they are in their own little bubble – completely focused on the task in hand. One slip of concentration, one delayed reaction and they could be out of the race. We have seen drivers slip up or crumble under pressure in the past, and everyone handles it differently.

Max Verstappen, for example, was put under the spotlight when he debuted in F1 at the age of just 17 earlier this year, but he has performed remarkably well under pressure, making a few mistakes but admitting that the increased attention doesn’t bother him.

On the theme of cracking under pressure and the lightning quick reaction times needed in F1, Goldsmiths has just launched the TAG Heuer Reflex game, to put motorsport fans to the test.

Are you a go-kart driver, or a Formula 1 driver? You can find out with the online game, which is a lot tougher than you think! Apparently I’m a GP3 driver when it comes to reactions (which isn’t particularly surprising!).

To celebrate the new game, I have a £150 Goldsmiths Gift Card to give away. You can enter below, and the competition runs until Friday 18 September. Good luck!
